Every book you own, on a shelf in your pocket.
Shelfmark is a home library app. Scan a book’s barcode and it lands on your shelf — cover, author and all — so you always know what you own, what you’ve read, and what to pick up next.
Free to start. One email at launch, nothing else.
What is Shelfmark?
Shelfmark is a free app for cataloging the physical books on your shelves. Add a book in seconds with your camera, see your whole library at a glance, get a heads-up before you buy something you already own, and borrow from friends who have the book you want. It’s simple on purpose: a calm, friendly keeper for your books, not another feed to scroll.
Your library, sorted in an afternoon
Everything you need to know what’s on your shelves — and nothing you don’t.
-
Scan a barcode
Point your camera at the back of a book. The cover, title and author fill in by themselves. No barcode? Search by title, author or ISBN.
-
Snap a whole shelf
Take one photo of a shelf and Shelfmark finds the books in it, so a full bookcase takes minutes instead of an evening.
-
Never buy a book twice
Shelfmark tells you when a book is already in your library or on your wishlist. Check in the bookshop and you’ll know.
-
Borrow from friends
See what your friends own and what they’re reading, and ask to borrow a book straight from their shelf.
-
Bring your Goodreads list
Import a Goodreads export, a spreadsheet or a pasted list of titles. Your read and currently-reading shelves come along.
-
Notes, quotes and a reading goal
Rate books, save favourite quotes and photos, log your page, and see what you finished this year.
Made for the books on your actual shelves
-
Physical books first
A keeper for books you can hold. You can log ebooks too, but there’s no e-reader and no store nudging you to buy.
-
Simple on purpose
Adding a book takes a couple of seconds. No feeds, no noise — just your library, beautifully kept.
-
Picks from your own shelves
Ideas for what to read next come from what you own and how you rated it, not from ads.
-
You choose who sees it
Public with a share link, friends only, or private. Private means hidden from everyone, friends included.

Questions readers ask
What is Shelfmark?
Shelfmark is a home library app for iPhone and Android. It keeps a catalog of the physical books you own, so you always know what is on your shelves, what you have read, and what to read next.
How do I add books to Shelfmark?
Scan the barcode on the back of a book with your phone camera, search by title, author or ISBN, or photograph a whole shelf and let Shelfmark find the books in it. You can also type a book in by hand or import a list. Covers and details fill in automatically.
Is Shelfmark free?
Yes. Shelfmark is free for libraries of up to 200 books, including barcode scanning, shelves, friends and import. An optional Premium subscription removes the book limit, adds printable spine labels and gives you more AI credits each month.
How is Shelfmark different from Goodreads?
Goodreads is a social network for reading. Shelfmark is a keeper for the books you actually own: it is built around your physical shelves, adding a book takes seconds, recommendations come from your own library rather than ads, and you decide whether your library is public, friends-only or private.
Can I import my Goodreads library into Shelfmark?
Yes. Export your library from Goodreads and import the file into Shelfmark. Your read and currently-reading shelves carry over. Shelfmark also imports CSV spreadsheets and pasted lists of titles.
Will Shelfmark stop me from buying a book I already own?
Yes. When you add a book that is already in your library, or already on your wishlist, Shelfmark tells you before saving it again. Check in the bookshop before you buy and you will know straight away.
Can I keep my library private?
Yes. Your library can be public to anyone with your share link, visible to accepted friends only, or private. Private hides it from everyone, including friends.
Does Shelfmark work with ebooks?
You can record ebooks such as Kindle, EPUB and PDF titles in your library, but Shelfmark is not an ebook reader. It is made first for physical books.
When can I download Shelfmark?
Shelfmark is coming soon to the App Store and Google Play. Join the list on this page and we will email you the day it is available.
